Enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, Saw combat service in the Pacific fleet as crewman in TBF Avenger torpedo bombers. At the end of WW II, transfered to the U.S. Army. Stationed in Japan prior to the Korean Conflict, met and married Cpl June Kocher in 1949. At the outbreak of hostilities in Korea, he was sent into combat, remaining there until the final cease fire. Continued service in the Army, eventually transferred to Ft. Benning Ga. Transfered to Vietnam with the 1st Air Cavalry, spending thirteen months in combat. Transferred back to Ft. Benning, whereupon he retired from the Army in 1968.
