MRS. MARY ABBETT,

Wife of Henry Abbett, died at her home on Buffalo Creek, last Monday night, after a short illness, the immediate cause being erysipelas. This is one of the saddest deaths we have chronicled in many a month. She was about 44 years of age and leaves a husband and a son about nine years old. It is a remarkable fact that she never knew anything of her parentage. She was left in Carrollton when a mere child by a stranger, who soon disappeared and had evidently been stolen from her parents. Afterwards she was adopted by the late Joseph Scott, but never could she learn anything of her origin, although diligent efforts were made. She was a good woman and esteemed by all who knew her. The mystery which attached to her will never be solved. The remains were interred in the Odd Fellows’ cemetery here on Wednesday. The following lines were handed us by “A Friend:”

It was only the footsteps of angels
That silently entered the door,
And took from our circle a dear one
To dwell on the radiant shore,

It was only a touch soft and loving,
And then the dear form was at rest,
When the soul of dear Mary went upward
To dwell with the pure and the blest.

It was only a moment of sorrow
The thee angles came in at the door,
And silently took dear Mary
To dwell on that beautiful shore.
