Bessie Selma Griffin, 101, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Richard and Mildred Wilkins Griffin, and was married for 52 years to the late Louis Taft Griffin who she married on Jan 12, 1929. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, George Griffin, Belt Griffin, Cornelius Griffin, Blanche Mahler, Agnes Comer, Josephine Beaman, Virginia Comer, Beulah Perdue, Dorothy Lowery, Goode Griffin, Ruby Lowery, and Arlene Poole. Mrs. Griffin was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, the Colonial Heights Senior Citizens Club, the AARP, and the Woman of the Moose. Mrs. Griffin was a retired machine operator with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company. She is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2008 in the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road with the Reverend Jim Pfost officiating. Interment Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George.
