Mary Garrett Betty, 75, of Charlotte, NC, died on Sunday, December 19, 1999, at Presbyterian Hospital. Mrs. Betty was born on July 13, 1924, in Montgomery, AL, a daughter of the late Berryman Garrett Betty and Laura Jones Betty. She was a graduate of Randolph Macon College in Virginia, and served as a legal secretary for law firms in Montgomery, AL, Mobile, AL, and Charlotte, NC. She retired after 40 years of service. She attended Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church and enjoyed sewing and needlepoint. Mrs. Betty is survived by her daughter, Virginia B. "Ginger'' Godbold, and her husband, N.J. "Joey'' Godbold, Jr., of Charlotte, N C; her son, Thomas F. "Tom'' Betty, Jr., of Henagar, AL; five grandchildren, Kristine B. "Kristy" Ziegler, Emily A. Betty, Frances E. "Beth" Godbold, Paul J. Godbold, and David B. Godbold; one great grandson, Spencer Ziegler; one brother, Charles J. Betty, of Columbus, GA; a sister-in-law, Virginia B. Hollinger, of Camden, AL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Betty. A memorial service was held at 11 AM on Monday, December 20, 1999, in the Chapel at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church, 2929 Selwyn Avenue, Charlotte, NC, with The Reverend Paul Rademacher officiating. There will be a graveside service at 1 PM on Thursday, December 23, 1999, at Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL, with The Reverend Edwin G. Thomas officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church, 2929 Selwyn Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28209. PINE CREST FUNERAL HOME is serving the Betty Family in Mobile.
