Merrill F. "Francis" Baer, 87, Anderson, passed away Oct. 30, 2008, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, after a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 25, 1921, in Wilkinson, and resided in this area most of his life.

Francis was a 1938 graduate of Wilkinson High School.

He served his country in the U.S. Army in England during World War II. Francis retired in 1977 from Delco Remy Division of General Motors Plant 4 after 36 years of service.

He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of United Auto Workers Local 662 and Guide Retiree Club. Francis enjoyed gardening, family and spending time with his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen (Craig) Baer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Leoma (Tinney) Baer; brother, Sam Baer; and sister, Marjorie Bucher.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes and Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, with the Rev. Tom Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the VFW Post 266.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the South Chapel.
