Tim was born in Juneau, Alaska to Craig E. Dahl and Kathy Dahl/Taylor. He graduated from Juneau Douglas High School in 1993 and from Western Washington University with a Bachelor of Science in bio-chemistry in 1998.

Tim worked as a bioinformathetician at Nanostring Technologies in Seattle, and had been with that company since its inception. He was involved in the research and development of revolutionary technology that enables the identification and quantification of individual target molecules in a biological sample by attaching a color coded fluorescent reporter to each target molecule. This approach is similar to the concept of measuring inventory by scanning barcodes except on a molecular level.

Tim was an excellent photographer and green thumb, enjoyed the outdoors, loved flying kites and was an independent thinker known for his ability to debate virtually any topic with passion and conviction. Tim was a lover of nature, reptiles, odd species, and exotic, strange looking plants. He loved randomness, absurdity and the irony of life itself. Intense, complex, deep and lovable, Tim had a crazy laugh and always wore different facial hair -- changing every week. The last two years Tim's focus was on being a great father to his daughter, Bibi.

Everyone who knew Tim -- friends, family, coworkers and even brief acquaintances will miss him tremendously, and will all endeavor to honor his wishes that his daughter grow up being taught to question the things around her and to look beyond the easy answers. He would want her to explore and challenge the rules of our existence.

Tim was preceded in death by his grandparents George and Ona McKee.

He is survived by his two-year-old daughter, Bibi Appaline Brown, father, Craig Dahl and wife Leslie; mother, Kathy Taylor; sister, Kristin Dahl and partner Jake Gunderson; grandparents, Craig and Joan Dahl; step-brother Jason Cameron; aunt, Jane Bohon and husband Tom; cousin, Keoki Dahl; uncle Max McKee and wife, Nelwyn; and cousins Kathleen, Randy, Brad and Scott McKee.

Contributions in Tim's memory can be made to the educational trust fund for his daughter, Bibi Brown: care of Smith Barney, 3031 Clinton Drive, Juneau, AK 99801.

An Old Irish Blessing:
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
