LANCASTER, Wis. -- Stephen A. "Steve" Rech, 54, of Lancaster, passed away Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, in Barneveld, of an apparent heart attack.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at United Methodist Church, Lancaster, with the Rev. Barbara Cook officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Schwartz Funeral Home, Lancaster. Friends also may call after noon Friday at the church.
He was born on Feb. 1, 1954, son of Henry and Lela (Bass) Rech. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1972, and attended Southwest Technical College for two years.
He married Susan Noble on May 27, 1978, at United Methodist Church, Lancaster; she preceded him in death on June 13, 2006.
He drove a semi-truck for most of his adult life, most recently for Wal-Mart Transportation, for the past three years. He enjoyed his work, especially touring the country.
Steve liked to be in the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and riding horses. He also enjoyed the Landon family get-togethers. He especially appreciated and cherished spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving are his three children, Erin (Jason) Wehrle, of Fennimore, Patrick (Miranda Tracy) Rech and Stephen "Todd" (Katie Withrow) Rech, both of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Emma and Jacob Wehrle and Bonnie Rech; his mother, Lela Rech, of Lancaster; five sisters and a brother, Shirley (Harold) Sweeney, Dorothy Eck, Roger Rech, Linda (Arvin Weber) Barr, Marcia (Daniel) Mitchell, all of Lancaster, and Sharon (Steve) Klein, Cassville; four sisters-in-law, Shirley Rech, of Lancaster, Sharon (Keith) Eikstadt, of Lena, Ill., Diane (Tim) Twining, of Isanti, Minn., and Vicki (Craig) Humphries, of Lancaster; two brothers-in-law, Steven (Kathy) Noble, of Oakland, Iowa, and Jeff Bendorf, of Stitzer; his father-in-law, Calvin Bendorf, of Stitzer; a friend, Connie Harpin and her family; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his father, Henry; a brother, Charles Rech; two brothers-in-law, Stanley Eck and Bill Barr; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Rech; and his father and mother-in-law, Floyd Noble and Ruth Bendorf.
