Thomas was a soldier in the War of 1812, enlisting as a Private 20 May 1813 in Robert B. McAfee's Company. After marrying Eleanor Collier on 16 Oct. 1817 in Warren County, KY, they moved to Madison County, IL, where his parents had migrated in 1810. Thomas moved to east Missouri in 1831, then to Newton County, MO in 1838, where he bought numerous sections of land and remained until his death.
