PINE RIVER -- Robert Boone, 82, Pine River, formerly of Pequot Lakes, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
He was born July 26, 1920, in San Diego to Charles and Betty (Breckenridge) Boone. He served in the Army during World War II in a glider infantry regiment in the 82nd Airborne Division. While in the Army he served with a heavy weapons company in the United States and European theater. For five months he was first sergeant in a company of 150 enlisted men. While in the Army, he received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II victory medal, American Campaign Medal and a Medal of Good Conduct. After being discharged from the Army in Camp Beale, Calif., he attended San Diego State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism. He worked for General Dynamics Corp. as a liaison engineer representative and later for the post office as a mail carrier for 22 years. He was a member of the Backus American Legion and the Jenkins VFW.
Survivors include two sisters, Glorya Davis, Belvedere, Calif., and Peggy Cramer, La Mesa, Calif.; a brother, Bill Boone, Santa Rosa, Calif.; three stepsons, Albert Anderson, Lester Anderson and Ernie Anderson; two stepdaughters, Vivian McCarty and Dorothy Campbell; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Kline Funeral Home in Pine River. Graveside services will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Backus in the spring.
