Moore, John Carroll


John Carroll "J.C." Moore died the morning of Nov. 1, 2008, in Commerce. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church of Commerce with Brother Adam Hailes officiating. Burial follows in Shiloh Cemetery in Delta County under the direction of Jones-Walker and Son Funeral Home of Commerce.Born July 22, 1925, in the Needmore Community, Delta County, he was the son of Grady M. and Effie Robnett Moore. He served with the United States Navy from 1943-45 and the United States Air Force from 1951-53. He was commissioned in the first graduating ROTC class at East Texas State Teachers College in 1951. Mr. Moore received a degree in agriculture from ETSTC and worked at LTV in Greenville prior to working and retiring from East Texas State University at the age of 62. He continued to work at other service jobs in the Commerce area for several years until he was fully retired. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Commerce.Mr. Moore will be remembered by many friends and family and for his love of people and his sense of humor. He especially enjoyed visiting with his son in Alaska and did so several times. Many children will remember him for his generosity of always having a dollar to give them when he saw them. He will be missed.John was the eldest of five children and is survived by one son, John Wayne "DJ" Moore of Willow, Alaska; a very special friend, Wanda Patterson of Greenville; sister Joyce Stribling and husband Bill of College Station; one brother, Lenton Moore and wife Kay of Commerce; several nieces and nephews and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gerald Moore in 1973; and a sister, Jean Brooks in 2004.Pallbearers are Bob Johnson, Darron Moore, Monty Moore, Mark Brooks, Tommy Stailey and David Stribling.Contributions may be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church, 918 Bishop Street, Commerce, Texas 75428.Online condolences may be made at www.jones-walkerandson.com, or visit and sign the guest book at www.heraldbanner.com.
