Charles J Kolbe died at his home near Seat Pleasant, Maryland, on Saturday morning, March 6. Mr. Kolbe was born in Philadelpia, October 31, 1856, his parents came to that city from Germany. While he was yet a boy they removed to White Deer Valley, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, and he remained with them until 1886, when he came to Prince George's County. He first settled at Hall Station, on the Pope's Creek Railroad and engaged in farming there for 6 years. He then bought 224 acres of the "Forest Quarters Farm", lying north of what is now known as Central Avenue on "Mud Pike", and continued farming that property until seven years ago, during which time he brought it into a high state of cultivation. Feeling the effect of his advancing age, however, seven years ago he turned the farm over to his son Edward Kolbe, who now continues to operation, and removed to the 12-acre tract near Seat Pleasant, where he established his new home and has since lived.

Mr. Kolbe is survived by his widow, a daughter, Mrs. J.A H Simpson, and his son Edward. His funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mr. McDougal of Seat Pleasant, at his former residence, and his interment was in the burial ground at Holy Trinity Church. His pallbearers were Charles Beans, Lee Carrick, the Wilburn brothers and the Heffner brothers.

Charles J Kolbe is the son of Conrad Kolbe (b-1831) and Elizabeth (1828). He was the husband of Catherine M (b-1858). He was the father of Benjamin L (1895-1905), Elizabeth M (b-1884) and Edward M Kolbe (1886). He was born in Pennsylvania, but resided in Bowie, MD where he died.
