He was the pastor of the Associate, now the United Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, Ohio. The same year (1843) he moved to Northfield, Summot Co., Ohio, becoming the pastor of the United Presbyterian Church. He was a successful pastor there for forty years, resigning in 1883, "revered by all."
James W. Logue, D.D. was a strong abolishionist, and the church became known as an abolishionist church.

He died in Monmouth, Illinois at the age of 81 years, 8 months. Had children: Jane Cooper Logue, James Gibson Logue, Joseph T. Logue and Jenetta Gibson Logue.
