His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at Trinity (Roth's) United Church of Christ, 6417 Church Rd., Spring Grove, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Gerald I. Gingrich officiating. Viewings will be from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday at Irwin Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military rites conducted by the East Berlin VFW Veterans Honor Guard.
Mr. Spahr was born March 13, 1919, in Dover Township. He was a son of the late Walter S. and Mary E. (Stover) Spahr.
He was employed at C.R. Heidlebaugh & Son Inc. in York for over 25 years. He was a member of Trinity (Roth's) United Church of Christ in Spring Grove, where he served on the church choir, was a Sunday school teacher, and served on consistory for several terms. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He was a member of East Berlin Post 8896 VFW, where he was past chaplain and past Sgt. of the Memorial Team for over 20 years. He was a member of the Spring Grove Area Historical Preservation Society.
Besides his wife he leaves, a son, Marlyn W. "Mick" Spahr of Spring Grove; a daughter, Charlotte R. Carbaugh of Spring Grove; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth L. Spahr of Thomasville; and a sister, Ruth R. Hoff of Thomasville. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlene Mary Spahr, and two brothers, Ervin and John Spahr.
