Avis Marie Skrukrud, 82, of Chatfield, died Friday (Nov. 7, 2008) at the Chosen Valley Care Center, where she had resided for two weeks.
Avis Bothun was born Dec. 20, 1925, in Chatfield, and was a 1943 graduate of Chatfield High School. On Dec. 31, 1945, she married Norman Skrukrud in Chatfield. While her husband was in the Navy, the couple lived in San Diego; Long Beach, Calif.; Honolulu; and the North Chicago Great Lakes Naval Training Center. They returned to Chatfield in 1959.
Mrs. Skrukrud was a secretary for Northwest Underwriters Insurance Co. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and SEMCAC, for which she delivered Meals on Wheels, and was a volunteer for Chatfield Tourism. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, singing, and flowers.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Robert (Beverly) of Prairie Village, Kan.; two daughters, Jean (Wayne) Gade of Springfield, Ill., and Lisa (Jon) Martin of Chatfield; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother, Dale (Leila) Bothun of Mazeppa; and a sister, Shirley (Orvis) Johnson of Chatfield. She was preceded in death by a son; her parents, Eilef and Mary (Witte) Bothun; five brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, and an hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
The family prefers memorials to the Chosen Valley Care Center.
