Catherine McLaine
Catherine "Kay" Dwyer McLaine of Dunmore died Monday at home after an illness. She was the wife of Robert M. McLaine, who died March 13, 2002.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Gillespie Dwyer, she was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Dunmore, and its Women's Guild. She was very active with the Democratic Party in Dunmore and served as judge of elections in her district for over 30 years. She enjoyed many years as a member of Lake Hideway, where in 1986 she and her husband, Bob, were crowned king and queen.

Kay was one-of-a-kind and was known for her kind, generous nature, and love of life and laughter. Everyone who met her felt special and knew she was special. She was everyone's "Nana" and especially enjoyed her children and their spouses, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and her nights on the town with her granddaughter, Elizabeth.

Surviving are five children, P.J. McLaine and wife, Peggy, Elmhurst; Robert McLaine, Dunmore; Richard Mclaine and wife, Mary Jo, Union Dale; Cathi Cwikla and husband, Don, Olyphant; and Thomas McLaine and wife, Teresa, Dunmore; 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Brian McLaine, in March of 1981; a granddaughter, Caitlin Cwikla, in July of 2005; a brother, Jack Dwyer; and two sisters, Marion O'Brien and Betty Widmar.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Thomas J. Golden Funeral Home, 2004 Delaware St., Dunmore, with Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, 322 Chestnut St., Dunmore. Friends are asked to go directly to the church. Interment, Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.

Friends may call Wednesday, 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Catherine Wills Bartell Scholarship Fund at Marywood University.
