Audre lived at the assisted living facility where I worked. I loved to chat with her during mealtimes and while assisting her with dressing and bathing. Through this chat grew a cherished friendship.
She was the author of a number of books:
Let My Life Sing: How to Cope When Your World Caves In (published in 1978);
Each Year is a Book (published in 1982);
Let Me Keep Laughter (published in 1985);
I Talk to Myself a Lot (published in 1986);
The Music Keeps on Playing (published in 1988)
Audre collected teacups and music boxes, and loved to read. Some of her favorite books to read, besides her well-worn Bible, included the Anne of Green Gables series and the Little House series. She also kept up a correspondence with her grandson, whom she confided was in prison for life in another state for murder, and told me that he didn't deserve to be in there. I often asked her how he was doing when I came in to work with her, and she would tell me the latest she'd heard from him.
Audre was a unique spirit, a loving and caring woman, and one whom I miss greatly.
