Anders Laurits Nielsen was the son of Peder (Peter) Nielsen and Bodil Kirstine Andersen. He was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on December 29, 1878. His father died at a young age.

He had one half sibling, Bodil Elisabeth Anderson, my great-grandmother. I believe that at one time, he and his parents lived in the Royal palace in Copenhagen, where his parents worked at the palace as servants. My father, (Erwin) Ronald Nelson remembered his grandmother, Elizabeth talking about watching (from her room high up in the palace),as coaches arrived at the palace at night and watching people emerging, dressed up for balls, etc. In 1891, the Anderson family immigrated to America. They arrived on the ship the "Island" on September 6, 1810 in New York City. From there, they travelled by train up to Assiniboia East, Northwest Territories (present day province of Saskatchewan). Once there, they were given land to homestead on. Their homestead just happened to be beside the Erik Johansson family who had emmigrated from Sweden. Eventually, Lauritis would marry their daughter, Elisabeth and Elisabeth's baby brother would marry Lauritis's younger sister, Elizabeth Bodil. Erick Johansson and Elizabeth Anderson were my great grandparents.
Lauritis and Elisabeth went on to have 4 children. Later, Elisabeth died and eventually, Lauritis took his family to live in Montana.
