Charles was the 10th of 14 children. He married Mary Onion at Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania on November 17, 1915. They had one son, Luther, and Mary died in childbirth. He married Mary Elmira Benjamin at Nanticoke on September 13, 1925 and they had one daughter, Ellen.

Charles worked as a watchman in a garage and was shot and killed by a robber.
