Chico Record, Friday, November 9, 1906: "Death of a Child. Ethel Atwater, six years of age, died at the home of her parents on Sandy Gulch during Wednesday night after a short illness. The funeral will be held from the church at Dayton, Rev. Holmes officiating. The interment will be in the Dayton cemetery."
Chico Record, Saturday morning, November 10, 1906: "Breveties. The funeral of Ethel Atwater, the six-year-old girl who died near Sandy Gulch Wednesday night, was held from the church at Dayton yesterday afternoon, Rev. Holmes officiating. The interment was in the Dayton cemetery."
From Other Sources: Ethel Atwater, aged 5 yrs., 8 mos., died November 7, 1906. She had resided with her parents in the Bidwell Addition of Chico. The funeral was ordered by her father M.D. Atwater, held on November 9, 1906, with burial at Dayton cemetery, in grandfather J.S Aid's plot. Ethel was also the daughter of Elizabeth (Aid) Atwater.
The upright concrete marker, 24 x 20 x 2"; was set in a 24 x 8" concrete base by the Dayton Service Group, 1996.
