BLANCHE LYNCH-NALLEY

Blanche Lynch, born abt Jul 1859 & Jul 1860 to Joseph Penn Lynch (Private and Captain in the Army of the Republic of Texas. Served in the San Jacinto Campaign, 1836) and his 2nd wife Sarah Jane "Jennie" Nalley and they separated/divorced after a short time. Blanche was raised by her mom and her uncle Virgil Addison Nalley (her mom's brother). Blanche married on August 16, 1898 in McLennan County, to her cousin, Shook Alexander Nalley, born ca, 1869 in McLennan County, Texas to Capt. Bennett Alexander Nalley, and his wife, Isabelle "Belle" Jane Shook.

Note: Joseph Penn Lynch as my great grand uncle-in-law via his 1st marriage to Mary Celia Miller (Mary was a sister to my 2nd great grandfather Robert T Miller, son of Andrew Miller).

Blanche died on 07 Feb 1910 after a 3.5 year bout with tuberculosis. She was still listed as "married" showing her usual residence as McLennan county on her death certificate (Re: Mrs Blanche Nalley Tx Death Certificate# 16156). She was admitted to NTIA (North Texas Insane Asylum which had a TB section and nka Terrell State Hosp ) in Terrell, Kaufman County about August 1905 (had TB for 3.5 years; been institutionalized for 3.5 years) and buried at the Wildwood Cemetery (on NTIA state property) under direction of Ed C Smith & Bro Undertaking in Dallas. She is buried in Wildwood Cemetery Section 5/Grave 982 and arrangements were made by her uncle Virgil (aka "Vergie") Addison Nalley who, along with her mother (his sister), raised her.

We have not yet found if Shook and Blanche had any children (married Aug 1898 and hospitalized with TB abt Aug 1905); in the 1900 census (married 2 years) there were no children living with them, so if any children were born it would have been after the 1900 census and before Aug 1905 when she was hospitalized for TB - a five year span of possibility for children to have been born). Family members are searching to find out if Blanche and Shook had any children before she died.

After her death, it appears that Shook Alexander Nalley married a Mary Beatrice Casler abt 1911 and lived in Louisiana and had 3 children (females) by the 1920 census, showing the middle child born in Texas and the 1st and 3rd born in Louisiana.

Shook died on June 3, 1927 (see below LA Death Index info):
Shook Alexander Nalley (Louisiana Death Index)
Name: Shook A. Nalley Death Date: 3 Jun 1927
Estimated birth year: 1877 Age: 50 years
Parish: Ouachita Certificate Number: 6803 Volume: 15 Title: Louisiana Statewide Death Indeces 1900-1929

Blanches' uncle Virgil Addison Nalley was more like a dad to Blanche, as along with her mother he helped raise her and took care of both her and his sister (her mom). After she married, Virgil was listed in their household in the 1900 McLennan Co census living with Blanche & Shook.

Blanche's uncle Virgil was the proprietor of the Central Hotel in Washington-on-the Brazos from 1890 and still had a hotel there in the 1910 census. Not only did he help raise Blanche, he also was head-of-household and cared for his other brothers and sisters after his parents died ca 1857. He also served in the Civil War.

Blanche's father, Joseph Penn Lynch, was one of early settlers of the Republic of Texas and the Texas Historical Society placed a memorial for him in Springfield Cemetery. Many historians have researched him for years to find out where he died/buried to no avail. We know he was living in Springfield, McLennan, Texas in the 1860 census and that Blanche and her mom were living in Bold Springs in the 1860 census, so he likely died/buried at one of those two locations. Some Nalley's are buried at College Mound (Bold Springs).

Bio Update (08 Nov 2009): We now have a marker placed for Blanche Lynch Nalley at the cemetery (see headstone photo update). Many thanks to those at Terrell State Hospital and the Wildwood Cemetery for helping us get a reasonably priced headstone placed! Previously the small stones on each grave were marked with a patient number and nobody would have known it was our BLANCHE V LYNCH-NALLEY without having a new headstone made. So, again MANY thanks to wonderful staff that gave me the process to get a headstone with her name and birth-death date on it!
