Jack was still in the hospital on Dec. 14, 1961 recovering from an accident at the stockyards where he worked, when Sherry and 19 other school children were killed at a railroad crossing near Auburn Colorado.
That morning, Sherry didn't want to go to school. She wanted to go to the hospital.
