On January 29, 1867 she was untied in marriage to Harrison T. Lathrop by Justice Abner Beable. To this union was born 10 children, Eva F., who was born Sept. 10th, 1879, Elmer H., who was b. Jan. 1, 1891. Preceeding her in death in the years 1901 and 1891. The surviving children are: Allie C. Shields of Amador, Mary E. Berkey of South Ottumwa, Joseph J. Lathrop of near Eddyville, John W. Lathrop of S. Ottumwa, Annie M. Roseman of Carborn Cliff, Ill., Frank A. Lathrop of S. Ottumwa, and Clara E. Byrum of Blakesburg. The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Byrum, a granddaughter preceded her in death just eleven days.
The surviving grandchildren are Orval, Carl, Edgar, Blanche and Wilbur Shields, Lawrence and Clifford Roseman, William, Elsie and Harvey Lathrop. She also has five brothers as follows: Daniel Kerr of Bidwell, Thomas Kerr of Amador, Henry Kerr of Eliiott, William Kerr of Krikville and John Kerr of Nevada.
She had resided continuously ever since except two years, which she and Mr. Lathrop lived in Kansas. She untited with the Methodist Prostestant church at Pleasant home May 1895 and had been a faithful and true Christian ever since.
She was a genial companion and will be greatly missed by the devoted husband and children and brothers, as well as a large circle of friends. The funeral seveices were conducted by Rev. J. W. Walley of S. Ottumwa, former pastor at Pleasant Home Wednesday at 2 o"clock p.m. at the church.
The floral offerings were many and were beautiful. There was a large concourse of relatives and friends in attendance to pay their last tribute of respect to the deceased. The interment was made in the Brooks cemetery.
