Ruby was born to Isaac Luther Caughron & Levonia McMillan who moved to High Point, Guilford County, North Carolina from Cocke County, Tennessee and raised their family there. She was the 3rd born of her parents 11 children and the oldest daughter. One brother, Claude, died in infancy. She was the 1st of the remaining siblings to pass away in adulthood.

The children in order of birth were William "Otey", Phillip Wesley "Willard", Ruby Reitzel, Nellie Matilda, Claude Haskel, Sarah "Allene", Mary "Juanita", Everett Luther, Jack Linville, Wanda Marie and Robert "Bobby" Thomas Walter Caughron. After Claude's death this left 5 boys and 5 girls who lived to adulthood.

She was baptized at age 16 into the Primitive Baptist Church.

Ruby wed Silas James Buchanan Dallas from Danville, Virginia on 22 Dec 1934, He was a Primitive Baptist Minister.

They moved from Virginia in 1942 to Atalla, Alabama to the Mt. Zion Association. They then moved & settled in Headland, Alabama in 1947.

She was a member at Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church in Dothan, Alabama.


Their union was blessed with 3 children, two daughters and a son. Ruby died in 1967 from Cancer. At time of death she had two grandsons and after her death her son had her third grandson.

Her funeral service was held at Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Headland, Alabama with Elder John Blackshear & Elder L.L. Farris Officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Headland Mortuary directing.
