Alta M. Hutchins was born to Francis and Elizabeth Nickelson Hutchins. As a young child the family traveled by covered wagon and homesteaded in Colorado. They later moved to the Guthrie Center area where Alta grew up and attended shcools.
In 1920 she was married to Roy G. Aupperle at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. They farmed near Adair until 1947 when they purchased a farm in Lincoln twp near Anita, where they farmed for several years.
Roy preceded her in death in 1970 and Alta maintained her own home until moving to Colonial Manor in Anita in 1981. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Adair; was a honorary member of the Maple Grove Neighbors Club; enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and crafts, and was a "good cook".
Alta is survived by three sons, Lowell and his wife Inez Aupperle of Greenfield; Bill and his friend Margaret Notz of Greenfield, and Neil and his wife Jannes Aupperle of Anita; and five daughters, Wanda Brown of Anita; Mrs Robert (Joyce) Hagen of Anita; Mrs. Bill (Audrey) Wahlert of Anita; Mrs. Charles (Delores) Templeman of Atlantic and Mrs. John (Marlene) Shannon of Madison, Ohio; 27 Grandchildren; 29 Grt Grandchidren. Also two sisters, Gertrude Lehman of Modesto, CA and Byrtle Kurtz of Sarasota, FL; one brother Jack Hutchins of Audubon.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Roy; one brother, Charles; one sister, Flossie Mack; Grandsons, Roger Jorgensen and Richard Wahlert; dauther-in-law, Bernadine Aupperle; son-in-law, Harry Brown.
