Conrad was the son of Elder Samuel "Sam" McMillan and Sarah Elizabeth Caton who were originally from Cocke County, Tennessee and moved to the North Carolina area probably after some of their children had moved there.
He was the first born of their 15 children. They were in order of birth: Walter "Conard", Stephen B., Levonia, Phoebe, Margret "Matilda", Laura, Cora (or Chora per a family bible), Louthenia, Hester, Belvia, Mary Elizabeth, James, David Columbus "Wade" E., William Thomas "Tom" McMillan and Minnie.

On October 7, 1907, Conrad joined the United States Army and found himself in Columbus, Ohio being sworn in as a regular soldier for 3 years. He was in Columbia 3 months before being sent to Presisio of San Francisco, California. In 1910 he was discharged from the army and came home to High Point, North Carolina.

Walter Conrad married Miss Kathrine "Kate" Elizabeth Ferguson, daughter of Mr. J.H. & Mrs. Mary Ferguson on July 10, 1912.

He was ordained a minister of the Primitive Baptist Church on the 13 of July 1913 at age 24.

Gravesite Details

McMillon evolved in this family to be spelled McMillan. The headstone is broken. Another user posted a pic of the headstone I just noticed in 2010 and the headstone has since been repaired
