He was the 2nd born child of 5 children. His other siblings in order of birth were Margaret Miranda, Rachael, Benjamin Harrison and Lady Arlecy "Arletha" Caughron. His parents and some of his siblings are buried at Caton's Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in Cocke County, Tennessee.
I.L. joined the Primitive Baptist Church in 1905. He was one of the sweetest singers in Israel. Brother Caughron was kind, charitable, submissive, humble and was one of the best men the church has ever known. He was Christ like and virtuous in the church and in his daily walks. The light God had placed in him shone so that all around him could see it. He was very kind to all of his brothers and sisters (of the church) and was heard often to say that he loved the cause and service of Jesus better than he loved his own life.
Brother Caughron was a member of the High Point Primitive Baptist Church in High Point, North Carolina. He was a deacon here serving and filling this office for over thirty years. He was always kind to everybody, but he was firm as the hills and the mountains in the doctrine of our blessed Lord and Savior.
I.L married Levonia McMillan who was from Cosby, Cocke County, Tenn. They wed in Cocke County on 18 Jul 1909. They had 11 children together. Ten of their children lived to adulthood. These were 5 boys and 5 girls.
They were named in order of birth: William "Otey", Phillip Wesley "Willard", Ruby Reitzel, Nellie Matilda, Claude Haskel, Sarah "Allene", Mary "Juanita", Everett Luther, Jack Linville, Wanda Marie and Robert "Bobby" Thomas Walter Caughron.
He had an earlier marriage to Marilda Campbell who was from Cocke County, Tennessee. They had no children together.
I.L. worked with the Hillsville Grocery Store near his home in Randolph County, NC.
After some time of declining health he died unexpectedly. At this time he lived in Trinity, North Carolina. Funeral services were conducted at the High Point Primitive Baptist Church by the Rev. V.V. Williard. Burial followed in the church cemetery with J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home directing. This church is now known as Mechanicsville Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Levonia on 01 March 1957.
Portions of the above bio were quoted from a written tribute to I.L. Caughron by Lee A. King of the High Point Primitive Baptist Church.
