NEWTON -- Services for Birtie Lynn Roebuck Savell will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Hazel Baptist Church with the Revs. Randall Creel, Dr. Leon Everett, Clifton Thornton, Reggie Williams, Michael J. Fondren Sr., and Curtis Cain officiating. Burial will be in Hazel Baptist Church Cemetery with James F. Webb Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.


Music for the service will be rendered by Marion Felton. Musicians for the service will be Tanya Phillips, pianist, and Brenda Creel, organist.


Mrs. Savell, 55, of Lake, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.


She was born on June 28, 1946, to the late Virgil Madison Roebuck and Birtie Meeks Roebuck. The Newton County native was a 1963 honor graduate of Union High School in Union. She also attended East Central Junior College in Decatur before attending the University of Southern Mississippi.


Her teaching career spanned a tenure of more than 32 years that began in 1967 and ended in 1999. Mrs. Savell taught for the Union Public School System in Newton, Clarke Memorial College in Newton and East Central Community College in Decatur.


She was a member of the Mississippi Professional Educator's Association and other various civic organizations.


She was a member of Hazel Baptist Church in Lake.


Survivors include her husband, whom she wed on June 22, 1973, D. Marcus "Mark" Savell; one daughter, Jennifer Lynn Savell; three sons, James M. "Jim" Savell, William R. Savell and Robert W. Savell; mother-in-law, Winnie Pierce Savell; two aunts, several special cousins and many friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Madison Roebuck and Birtie Meeks Roebuck, and her father-in-law, the Rev. Didymus D. Savell.


The family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Gideons International, Inc., P.O. Box 297, Newton, MS 39345.


Visitation will be today from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.


Paulbearers will be George Clark, Ed Amis, Dwight Brown, Jack Crosby, Lewis Crosby, Daniel Nester, David Hensley, Gary Pinson, Elton Wall, Dr. Larry Haley, Billy Pierce and Marcus Gordon.


Honorary pallbearers will be John Lewis Hensley, Edward Nester, Delbert Walton, Harmon Crosby, Clemon Easom, Harry Thompson, Jimmy Dale Bryant and Marion Felton.
