Jasper was the son of J.B. and Martha Virginia Floyd Bass. Jasper's father died of the flu when he was very young and he and his siblings had to help their mother on the farm. Jasper was a bit of a character when he was young. He liked to cook moonshine with friends. The story he told me was that he was arrested by the local lawmen and he and his friends were thrown in jail. There was no evidence room back then, so the moonshine was stored in the next cell. The men figured out how to slide the liquor to them and then push it back in place. Grandad chuckled and said, "They never could figure out why their evidence was gone and the prisoners were drunk!" Grandad couldn't hear very well, so we would introduce a topic and just let him talk. He loved to watch wrestling and smoke a good pipe. After living a long life, his body finally wore out. I truly believe Grandmother Bass came back for him towards the end and I do believe they wait for us on the other side. Rest in peace Grandad!
