Silas Duvall
Silas Duvall, an old resident of the town of Louisville, died at his home on the St. Lawrence river road in the lower end of the town last Thursday morning at five o'clock after an illness of several weeks. The funeral was held from the family home Saturday morning at 10:30, conducted, by Rev. L E. Rose, pastor of the M. E. church at Louisville. Interment in Pine Grove cemetery, Massena.
Silas Duvall was born at Osnabruck Center, Ont. March 27, 1838. When a young man he came to this side of the river and March 30, 1864, he married Miss Melvina Waite, of Brasher, who has been his constant companion through life. To them were born three children, two of whom died many years ago, and one living, a son, James Duvall, who resides on the old Dewey farm in the lower part of Louisville.
Mr. and Mrs. Duvall started life at Racket River where he conducted a blacksmith shop for about twenty-five years, when he sold out and moved to Massena village, where he remained four years, then purchased the farm in Louisville which had since been his home.
Besides his wife and son he is survived by three brothers and two sisters, Abram Duvall, of Lunenburg, Ont.; Charles Duvall, of Osnabruck Center, Ont.; James Duvall, of Sandy Hook; Mrs. Merilla Rice, of Osnabruck Center, Ont.; Mrs. Esther Ann Livingston, of Morrisburg, Ont.
Among the relatives from out of town present at the funeral were Mrs. Samantha Hitchcock, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hitchcock, of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. John Shaver, of Osnabruck Center, Ont.; Mr. and Mrs. Abram Duvall, of Lunenburg, Ont.; Charles Duvall, from Osnabruck Center, Ont., and Miss Agnes Gibbs, from Massena.
The many friends extend sympathy to the aged widow and her son in their sorrow.
