Armenius' family crossed the plains on the Oregon Trail with Capt Splawn, leaving Missouri in April of 1852 with nine of his eleven children and met the two oldest boys Miles and Robert at The Dalles Oregon in late September or early October of the same year. It was the first time in years that all of the family members were together. After a short rest some of the men went south through Canyon City and some went west to Oregon City, the women boarded barges and went down the Columbia River and on to the Willamette Valley, Oregon.
