MRS. J. G. FOULKS PASSES AWAY

With deep regret we note the passing away of one of our pioneer ladies, Mrs. J. G. Foulks, which occurred at her home in English township on Friday, April 10, 1925, at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 30 days, after an extended illness.

Largely attended funeral services, conducted by Rev. Frank Bean, assisted by Rev. J. D. Pontius, were held at the M. E. church in this city on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, after which interment took place in the Chariton cemetery.

Miss Ellen Willoughby was born in Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, on May 11, 1849. She lived there until she reached the age of twenty years, and then moved with her parents to Lucas county, Iowa, in February, 1869.

On September 22, 1873, she was united in marriage to Mr. J. G. Foulks. To this union seven children were born, three of whom, together with her husband, survive. They are Mrs. Lena F. Treasure and Mrs. Myrtle Brightwell, both of Chariton, and Harry H. Foulks, of Omaha. She is also survived by one brother, Henderson Willoughby, of Williamson, and by six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mrs. Foulks united with the M. E. church in 1874 and has been a continuous member ever since. During the past thirty years she has been, through ill health, confined to her home, but always found time each day to read some scripture in the Bible.

She was a devoted mother, her thoughts ever being of her family and they always came first, even to the last her thoughts were of their welfare. During her long residence in this county of fifty-six years she had won the high regard of all with whom she came in contact, and her demise is deplored by innumerable friends, who will extend sincere sympathy to the bereaved ones.
