WILL FOULKS KILLED IN RAILROAD WRECK

The community was greatly shocked by the intelligence Monday morning that Will Foulks, who resided northeast of Chariton, had been killed in a railroad accident at Earlville, Illinois.

Mr. Foulks left here Saturday evening with a shipment of stock for Chicago, and a number of shippers were with him on the train when the accident occurred, including Roy Hopper, of Benton township, and Joe E. Hall, of this city.

The stock train was at a standstill when a merchandise train crashed into the rear end of it, killing seven men and wounding several others. The wreck was caused by the pursuing train running through a block signal. The engineer of the train, A. C. Carlson, of Galesburg, has admitted that he was asleep at his post.

The men who were killed were W. D. Dixon, Hamilton, Iowa; Otis McCauley, Kellerton, Iowa; Thomas Bender, Fairfield, Iowa; Will Foulks, Chariton; John Walker, Milo, Iowa; Fred Manley, Osceola, Iowa; and James Johnston, Creston, Iowa.

J. G. Foulks, father of Will Foulks, accompanied by the wife of the deceased, who met him in Ottumwa where she had been visiting, went to Aurora Monday noon after the remains, arriving here Tuesday morning on No. 3

Largely attended funeral services, conducted by Rev. Joseph W. Goodsell, were held at the M. E. church yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock, after which the remains were interred in the Chariton cemetery.

James Wilbur Foulks, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Foulks, was born in Chariton, Iowa, on February 26th, 1879, and was 38 years, 6 months and 18 days old. He spent the early part of his life with his parents on the farm near Chariton.

On March 22nd, 1904, he was united in marriage to Catherine Rose McGugart, at Ottumwa, Iowa. To them was born one daughter, Vesta Marguerite.

Mr. Foulks leaves, besides the wife and daughter, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Foulks, and three sisters, Mrs. LaNelle R. Treasure, Mrs. Vesta M. Enslow, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Myrtle Brightwell, of this city; and one brother, Harry H. Foulks, of Des Moines.

Deceased had a large circle of friends who will mourn his tragic death and who will extend heartfelt sympathy to the grief stricken relatives who survive.
