Native Oregonian Chester F. Berning died Oct. 13 at his home in Florence of causes related to age. He was 82.
He was born Oct. 1, 1926, to Chester and Mary Cook Berning in Portland, where he was reared.
During World War II he served in the Navy.
On March 18, 1950, he married Marilynn Trumbo in Tualatin.
He retired as a captain in the Tualatin Valley Fire District.
In addition to his wife Marilynn, survivors include daughters Linda Sue Aplass of Walla Walla, Wash., Deborah Ann Berning and Beverly Joyce Berning both of Florence; sons Robert Berning of Spring Creek, Nev. and Thomas J. Berning of Sandy; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Monday, Oct. 20, at the Honeyman Recreational Meeting Hall in Florence. Inurnment was at Willamette National Cemetery.
