Karney E. Tinney, 93, of Sissonville died Nov. 12, 2001, in CAMC Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Braxton County, he graduated from Sutton High School, attended Glenville State Teachers College and moved to Sissonville in 1929. He was employed at Kanawha Farms Dairy, first as a bookkeeper and later as the general superintendent. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy Seabees.
Following the war, he owned a hardware store and plumbing business and later was employed by Union Carbide, retiring in 1967. A long-time supporter of community projects, he was particularly active in the development of the Sissonville Branch of the Kanawha County Public Library. Because of his support, the library is now located on Tinney Lane.
His wife, Irene Bailey Tinney, preceded Mr. Tinney in death.
He is survived by: his son, John H. Tinney Sr. of Charleston; his daughter Elizabeth Garten of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Juanita Temple of Charleston and Marie Kidd of Sutton.
Services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Humphries Memorial United Methodist Church, Sissonville.
