Myrl H. Baxter, 72, died Friday, March 3, 2006, at Memorial Health University Medical Center. The Long County native had lived in Ludowici all his life. He was retired after 34 years' service from the Georgia Forestry Commission, and was a farmer. He was a Korean War Army veteran, and a member of Pigott Branch Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ola Dell Baxter of Ludowici; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Lisa Baxter of Ludowici; a brother, Mitchell Baxter of Ludowici; a sister, Avis Smiley of Jesup; grandchildren: Erin, Lindsey, Ryan, and Harley Baxter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 5, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Stokes, the Rev. Tommy Ray, and the Rev. Thomas Kelly officiating. Burial was in Pigott Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Joe Baxter, Damon Kennedy, Eric Moody, Alan Dasher, Richard Long, and Brian Blocker.
Honorary pallbearers were Roger Dasher, Roger Dale, Jim Heinzman, Jeffery Dasher, Eddie Dasher, Don Dasher, Brad Dasher, Gene Nasworthy, Robert Moody, Ronald Moody, Garnold Blocker, Roy Baxter, Brad Baxter, Gene Reddish, Hugh Reddish, M. Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.
