From the book Bailey Allgood and Associated Families- 1980- " John Bailey ,farmer and stockraiser, and member of the City Council, son of John and Jane Allgood Bailey, was born in Whitwick, Leicestershire, England 26 November 1840. The family joined the Mormom Church and in 1856 they migrated to Utah, crossing the plains in Captain Martin's Handcart Company, fitted at Florence, Nebraska, in which many persons died from cold and hunger. They were met by a relief expedition and brought to Salt Lake City and from there went to Nephi, Utah, where they resided until 1860, when they went to Moroni, Sanpete, Utah. They took up land and framed.
John took part in the Black Hawk war as a minuteman, being in the engagement in Selina Canyon and Grass Valley. In 1863 he returned to the Missouri River after emigrants. He now had a farm of sixty acres and was a stockholder in the Co-Op Store. He was a prominent Democrat, being chairman of the party, and a member of the city council, a position he held for thirteen years. He married in Moroni, Sanpete, Utah 20 February 1866 to Charlotte Shephard, daughter of Joseph and Ellen Shephard, born in Stafford,England, 7 May 1848. He was a road supervisor and a representative citizen. The John Baileys' have a large posterity. Their marriage was sealed in the Endowment House , 30 January 1868. They had eleven children( see Charlotte bio for more on children). John Bailey died 6 August 1928 in Moroni, Utah. Here he was buried. His wife Charlotte died 7 July 1937, and was also buried in Moroni, Utah."
