His son James Cabel Faulkner, Jr. was employed by James, Sr. in Hamlet, Richmond County, in 1942.
First wife, Annie Blackmon Faulkner, continued to live in Surry County into the 1940s. She was living in Alexandria, Virginia, in January 1956 with son William Thurlow Faulkner.
Second wife, Ida Bennett Faulkner, was the informant on his NC death certificate. His parents' names were not known. She remarried and was Ida Bennett Hoover at her death in 1982 in Brevard County, Florida.
