Husband of Bess Achilles
David Daniel Allred, 90, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2008, at Retirement and Nursing Center after several weeks of declining health. He was born on January 16, 1918, in Caswell County, North Carolina and was the son of William Banks and Ada Garrison Allred.
He was married for 39 years to Bess Achilles Allred of Austin who survives him. He is also survived by his step-son, Robert Horne and his wife, Susan; step-daughter, Barbara Fiandt and her husband, Michael; his step- grandchildren, Camille Horne, Emily Horne, William (Bill) Fiandt, Brianna Fiandt; his brother, Tommy Lee Allred and his wife, Jane; several nephews and a niece.
Allred served with the 81st Infantry Division in the South Pacific during World War II. He owned and operated Allred Jewelers in Austin before retiring in 1984. Allred was a member of the Midland Gem and Mineral Society, the Austin Watchmakers Guild, and the American Legion. He lived a rich, full life and enjoyed his hobbies, his family, his good friends, country music and nature. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2008. A Funeral Service celebrating Allred's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Davis Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Austin, Texas.
