Jacob was a son of John Read (Reed) (b: 1774 d: 1850) and Abigail (Abbey) Hoffman (b: 1760 d: 1844) of Washington Township, Post office --Schooleys Mountain, Morris Cty.

Jacob enlisted in the United States Army on May 30, 1812 and served for a term of 5 years. He was discharged on May 30, 1817. His military record states that he was five feet six inches tall with blue eyes and brown hair.

Jacob was the husband of Eve (Effie) Hoffman (b: 1791-d: 12/5/1864)(FAG# 31544175). They were married on 12/24/1814 in Hunterdon County, N.J. by Reverend Castner.

After Eve's passing, Jacob married the widowed Elizabeth Eick in 1870. Jacob, Elizabeth and step daughter Sarah P. Eick lived in Readington, Hunterdon County, NJ with Jacob's youngest son Isaiah and his family.

The original Old Yard Cemetary is located at Cherry St. and Kullman Corporate Campus Dr. in the woods at 23 Cherry St. It is not visable from the Street. The cemetery is on the other side of the stone wall.
