Clay Caven, Conover Meat Packer, Stock Buyer, Dies
Clay Caven, 71, senior member of the Caven & Son Packing Co in Conover, died of a heart seizure at 12:20 pm Tuesday in the Venice, Fla hospital, where he had been a patient the past five weeks. He and Mrs. Caven had been residing at their winter home in Englewood, Fla.
Mr Caven was born in Shelby County, Dec, 17, 1895, to the late William and Maggie Covault Caven. He was married to Mercedes Mitchell, who survives and was a member of the Greenview United Church of Christ.
He was also a member of Social Lodge 217, F&AM, in Lena and the Scottish Rite, AASR, Valley of Dayton. He had been a stock buyer most of his life, prior to the incorporation of his packing company.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Howard, Of Conover and two grandsons, Victor and Dean. A brother, Garner, died in January, 1966.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 pm in the Suber Funeral Home by the Rev Carl Bollinger of the Greenview United Church of Christ and the Rev Thomas Jackson of Kettering, its former pastor. Burial will be in the Fletcher Cemetery.
Masonic services will be conducted at 7 pm Friday in the funeral home. Friends may call there Friday afternoon and evening.
