Mrs. Dowdy, 99, of Charlotte, North Carolina, formerly of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2008 in Charlotte.
Bess, known as 'BB' by all her family and friends was born April 5, 1909 in Mangum, Oklahoma. She was married to her late husband, D Franklin Dowdy (her buddy) for 68 years. In 1971 she retired from Oklahoma Department of Public Welfare where she worked as a social worker. She moved to Charlotte in 1998 after the death of her husband to be with her granddaughter, Melissa Hale Coyle.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Melissa Hale Coyle, her husband, Pat Coyle and their children, Josh and Tim Coyle, all of Matthews, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Chloe Ann Hicks, and her son-in-law, James Hale Hicks.
The family would like to express its deep appreciation to Dee, Martha, Veta and Renee for their comfort, compassion, love, patience and care they provided for BB's last few years. The family would also like to thank Presbyterian Hospice Care.
Her funeral service will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma on November 24, 2008.
