Preacher Jimmie Gerald Blackwell, 62, of 935 N. Glassy Mountain Road, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002.
He was the son of the late Hugh and Margaret Henderson Blackwell, and was the husband of Marcella Hill Blackwell for 42 years.
He was Pastor at Glassy Mountain Baptist Church for 23 years and attended Covington Theological Seminary.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella H. Blackwell; one son, Keith Blackwell, and wife, Missy, of Saluda, N.C.; a daughter, Terri Good, and husband, Michael, of Greer; grandchildren, Chad Good and Candice Good, of Greer, Franklin Blackwell and Thaddeus Blackwell, of Saluda, N.C.; a brother, Hugh V. "Bud" Blackwell Jr., and wife, Lillie, of Greer; sisters, Effie Guice, and husband, Horace, of Saluda, N.C., Amelia Ward of Saluda, N.C., Aurelia Ward, and husband, John Lee Ward, of Zirconia, N.C., Dorothy Belcher, and husband, Bill, of Flat Rock, N.C., and Mary "Dooder" Sexton, and husband, Ray, of Saluda, N.C; and several nieces and nephews, and his church family (members of Glassy Mountain Baptist Church), and many, many dear friends and brothers and sisters in the Lord.
He was predeceased by brothers, Johnny and Dean Blackwell.
The family will receive friends tonight, from 7 to 8:30, at Petty Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 2 p.m., at Glassy Mountain Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. John Parker and the Rev. Sherrill Moore.
Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Glassy Mountain Baptist Church Building Fund, 936 N. Glassy Mountain Road, Landrum, SC 29356; or, to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722.
The family is at the home of Michael and Terri Good, 4524 Jordan Road, Greer.
