Curtis was born in Matthews, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina on March 20, 1918. He fell sick and died on April 3, 1918 at the tender age of only 14 days. The cause of death was listed as trismus moratorius (this last word is difficult to read from the death certificate. I looked this up and trismus refers to difficulty in opening the mouth. Curtis rests next to his mother and father, Neil O. and Hattie Smith Alexander.
