His wife, Josephine, was born on April 28, 1914 in Staunton, Macoupin, Illinois, and died on February 12, 1977 in Springfield, Sangamon, Illinois. She was the daughter of Joseph A. King and Ida Elizabeth Keyser. Nick later died of leukemia after five weeks of illness on March 15, 1959 in Springfield, Sangamon, Illinois. His burial was on March 18, 1959 in Calvary Cemetery, Springfield, Sangamon, Illinois.
