From the Otago Witness (Dunedin), 17 August 1861: The Late Mr. Sims. — Many of our readers will remember the deep regret with which the intelligence was received of the death of this gentleman by drowning, through, there was no doubt, the accidental upsetting of his boat, some few months since, as he was returning home from Riverton, and the unavailing search made for his body. On Monday last, his remains were discovered about half-a-mile from where the brig " Wanderer" is lying, not far off the mouth of Jacob's river, and were identified by his clothes. An inquiry was held as a matter of course, and a verdict of "accidental death" was returned. It is supposed, we believe, that deceased slipped while sculling his boat, and, being rather heavily clad, that he was unable to contend against the strong current of the river.
