Anthony Gaffke was born on 27 Oct 1853 in West Prussia, the second son of Adam Gaffke and the first son of Adam Gaffke and his second wife Catherine Bradke Anthony's baptism was in Parschkau (Mechowo).His siblings were; Half brother Johann Joseph (only child of Adam and Chrystina Geka) August,Thomas, Jospeh,Francis,Anna, and Maryanna. The family came to the USA before the 1880 census but after the death of Adam Gaffke in 1872. Anton married Mary Konke May 8th 1881 in Detroit at the beautiful St Albertus Catholic church where their first child John Gaffka was baptized. They later attended St Casimir another of the beautiful Polish churches of Detroit. The rest of their children Anna, Julianna, Anthony Jr, and Joseph were baptized at St Casimir.Their son Anthony Jr died in infancy in 1889.

Anthony died of Uremia at the age of 37 his wife Mary would die of Tuberculosis a few years later at the age of 34, leaving their remaining children orphans to be raised by various family members.
