Jack Arthur Schutts, 90, died peacefully at his home Sunday evening, Nov. 23, 2008.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Bert N. Honea Jr. will officiate. A reception will follow in Moncrief Hall. Interment in Greenwood Memorial Park will be private.
Honorary pallbearers: William C. Bahan, Eric Hyden, Dr. Wishard Speer Lorimer III, Dr. Douglas D. Lorimer, Roger Horchow, Dr. G. Douglas Tatum, Edwin S. Ryan, Dr. Bobby Brown, Preston Geren and George Gaines.
Jack was born Nov. 12, 1918, in Fort Worth, the fifth of seven children born to the late Mabel and William C. Schutts. He graduated from Paschal High School in 1936 and attended his 70th class reunion in 2006.
Jack attended the University of Texas School of Architecture and completed four of the five years program before serving five years in Europe with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He finished his degree in architecture at UT and taught in the School of Architecture for two years before returning to Fort Worth to work with the Luther brothers. He designed various residential and commercial projects in the Ridglea development and later worked with Preston Geren Architects. He was a practicing architect for 65 years.
Some of his major design projects included Ridglea Country Club with Burton Schutt Architects from Los Angeles, Calif., the Ridglea Bank buildings, Holy Family Catholic Church and Fort Worth Country Day School. He was also instrumental in the design of Holy Trinity Seminary in Irving, the American Airlines Stewardess College and Learning Center, and numerous residences, notably the Fred Hodge home, and most recently the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bahan. After retirement in 2000, Jack became a consultant for several residential projects. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects, River Crest Country Club, Nantucket Yacht Club and the Exchange Club, and was a past president of the Steeplechase Club.
Survivors: His wife of 56 years, Patrica Honea Schutts; daughters, Martha Schutts and husband, J.R. Williams, of Fort Worth, Emily Schutts and husband, Mike Dunleavy, of Los Angelos, Calif., and Mary Lou Schutts and husband, Miles Clements, of Metairie, La.; beloved grandchildren, Michael Dunleavy and wife, Sarah, Baker Dunleavy, James Dunleavy, Miles Clements, Jack Clements, Emily Clements, Patricia Williams and Walker Williams; sister, Mrs. James Rhottenberry of Midland; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bert and Patricia Honea of Fort Worth; and many nephews, nieces and cousins who comprise a large loving family.
