Carried VanHorn kept contact with her Orange County, Indiana friends:

Orleans Progress Examiner, Jun 22, 1905: Mrs. Carrie Van Horn and daughter, and Mrs. Reeves and little son, of Memphis, Tenn., are visiting friends in Paoli. They will be there until after the Old Settlers’ Reunion when they will come to Orleans for a visit to Will H. Chatham and his sister, Mrs. H. F. Johnson. Mrs. Van Horn was formerly Miss Carrie Bowman, and several years ago taught school south of town and made her home with the Chatham family. She was here about fifteen years ago on a visit.

Orleans Progress Examiner, Jun 7, 1906: Misses Jennie Throop and Allie McVey, of Paoli, passed through here Tuesday evening on their way to Memphis, Tenn., to visit Mrs. Carrie Van Horn.

Paoli Republican, Aug 23, 1916: Mrs. Carrie Van Horn, of Memphis, Tenn., is visiting E. W. and Miss Lizzie D. McVey and other friends for a few weeks. Mrs. Van Horn, as Miss Carrie Bowman, lived in Paoli in her young days and was for some years a popular school teacher in this and other parts of Orange county.

Paoli Republican, Sep 13, 1916: Last Thursday Miss Dee McVey and Miss Jennie Throop entertained in honor Mrs. Carrie Van Horn nee Bowman, of Memphis, Tenn. The guests were all the ladies of the town who had been classmates of Mrs. Van Horn at the Old Seminary or her pupils at Science Hill. If anyone was not notified let us lay it to the failing memory of the hostesses or the guest of honor. The chief features of the party was not the color schemes nor the party dresses, nor the simple refreshment, but the slipping back into the days of “Auld lang Syne.’ The old songs by old singers, the recitations of more than fifty years ago, the reminiscences told aptly, illustrated the fact that people are just as young as they feel. They had a veritable little centennial on Throop’s Hill and may there be many centennial of social affairs in Paoli before December 11, 1916.

I am not related to Carrie VanHorn, merely researched her for my friend in a quest to discover why her photo was found with Throop family of Orange County, IN memorabilia. Any input or transfer of memorial welcome.
