The funeral service for Mildred Mae Fischer of Thorne Crest Retirement Center, Albert Lea, formerly of Alden, will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday, Feb 21, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. The Rev. Floyd Anderson will officiate. Interment will be in the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, and one-hour before services at the church.
Mildred died on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at the Thorne Crest Retirement Center, Health Care Wing in Albert Lea. She died 2 days before her 100th birthday.
She was born in Freeborn County on Feb. 19 1901, having a twin sister, Minnie, who was born on Feb 20th. Their parents were Leonard and Effie (George) Guenther. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
She married Frank L. Fischer on Oct 6, 1922 in Mansfield. They lived and farmed together, Mildred working in the fields and barn whenever needed. Mildred also worked at Stampers Foods in Wells.
Mildred is survived by three children: son, Orville Fischer and his wife Darleen of Owatonna, son, Kenneth Fischer and his wife Delores of Albert Lea, and daughter, Ardus and her husband Tenford Sanderson of Alden; daughter-in-law Darlene Fischer of Conger; grandchildren, Gary (Diane) Fischer, Karen (Ralph) Nelson, Keith Fischer, Kevin (Layle) Fischer, Kent (Tammy) Fischer, Dwayne Fischer, Daryl (Shelli) Sanderson, David (Sue) Sanderson, Diane Bute, Steven (Pam) Sanderson, Rhonda (David) Linn, Jimmy (Belinda) Fischer, Michael Fischer and special friend Janelle Abbe, and Sheila (Steve) Burris; 21 great-grandchildren, Lori, Lisa and Kari Fischer, Bruce (Trisha) Fischer, Jill (Kyro) Lantsberger, Daniel Fischer, Jacob, Toni, Kristin, Jessica, Kelli and Paige Sanderson, Jarrod Robran, Jennifer and Derek Bute, Jamie and Mindy Linn, Derek Fischer, Michelle Fischer and Megan and Alex Burris; one great-grandchild, Courtney Nelson; sister-in-law, Thelma Guenther; and several nieces and nephews.
She was prededed in death by her parents; husband; son, Donald; brothers, Paul and Lincoln; sister, Clara Olson, and twin sister, Minnie Schmidt, and great-grandchild, Joshua Sanderson.
Mildred was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She especially loved children. She will be remembered for her loving kindness and giving of herself to help others, but not expecting anything in return.
