Benedict A. "Ben" Chesnick, 81, of Callicoon, NY, a retired Dairy Inspector and baseball umpire and a resident of the area since 1965, died Monday, October 27, 2008 at Marion Hospital Carbondale, PA.

Son of the late Jacob and Mary Cavage Chesnick, he was born February 10, 1927 in Uniondale, PA.

He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Callicoon; member of the Sullivan County Umpires Association and was a member of the Wayne County, PA Baseball Hall of Fame and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Tornich Chesnick at home; two daughters, Carol Tunison and her husband, Robin of Ithaca, NY and Marie Chesnick of Wilmington, MA; two grandchildren, Jaime and Jessica Tunison; three sisters: Veronica, Mary and Pauline; three brothers: Frances, Alphonse and Matthew and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Joan Chesnick and his siblings: Josephine, Stanley, Edward, Amelia, Genevieve, Bernard and Anthony.

Friends may call Thursday, October 30, from 5-8 p.m. at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, 34 Upper Main St., Callicoon.

Services will be Friday, October 31, at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 9719 State Route 97, Callicoon with Father Ignatius Smith OFM officiating.

Burial will be in Callicoon Cemetery, Callicoon, NY.
